Features
When pipes are buried underground, numerous loads such as backfill soil, liquid weight in the pipe, pavements and moving vehicles act on the pipe.
As a result of the complexities involved, external pressure significantly varies depending on the nature of soil, method of back filling, the state after back fill etc.
Soil and Wheel Pressure
With reference to the table below, it is seen that external pressure on the pipe becomes almost almost constant on pipes buried at depths greater than 1.2 meters. In other words, if pipes are buried at a depth of 0.8 to 1.0 meter, they are usually quite safe to earth and wheel pressure.
